Beware: This Might Be Ruining Your Online Training Or Coaching Business

Beware: This Might Be Ruining Your Online Training Or Coaching Business

In today's video, I'm going to be taking you through one of the biggest things in business as a business owner. And this one thing, if you are doing this, could be ruining your business. It could be limiting your impact, and your reach. It could be causing you to not get enough clients, and ultimately, impacting your bank account, your finances, and your future.

There's a saying ... I'm going to misquote it, apologies. I didn't look it up specifically ... But there's a saying that in essence means, beware of what ... A better way to communicate it. The things that ruin your life are not the things that you don't know. It's not that you need more information. The things that actually cause the most harm are what you think you know is not right. I'll repeat that. It is not what you don't know that hurts you the most, it is what you think you know to be true that isn't true that hurts you the most.

Now, it sounds complicated and you might be thinking, "Chris, what has this got to do with business? Why would this be ruining my business?" Ultimately, the quote ... and it is an extraordinarily powerful quote ... talks about how there are lots of things out there in the world right now that you may not know, and being aware that you do not know things, it's cool because you, you're going to be like, "All right, well I'm not going to do X because I don't know what that is, or I don't know how to do that."

Now, the things that hurt you most in business are the things that you think you know or you think are true, which actually aren't. Now, I'll repeat it in a simple way. The things that are hurting you the most right now in your business are not the stuff you don't know. It's the stuff you think you know that isn't true.

And how does that relate to business? Now, what I mean by that is there are a lot of people out there that ... Let's just take, for example, a real-world example here. I spoke to a coach the other day who wanted to grow more, wanted to have more impact, and was an amazing coach, could help a lot of lives. But they were like, "Chris, I can get clients, but I've got a handful of clients, but I'm struggling to make ends meet at the end of the month because I'm not earning a lot. How can I grow?" And after digging and asking questions, they were like, "I've got so many clients, I'm too busy, I'm so full up, but I still don't earn much at the end of the month. I'm working hard and I can't take on any more clients."

And I was like, "All right, so what do you charge those clients?" And they were like, "All right, well currently, I charge my clients $500 for this online coaching package." And I was like, "Well, just to let you know, people in the exact same niche, exact same space, exact same country, delivering the exact same service right now, I know people who are charging $5,000 for that. I know people who are charging $2,000. I know people who are charging $3,000 for that, who are as good as you, have the same background, have the same product, the same country, the same space, and someone charging up to $5,000 for the exact same thing."

And the person on the call was like, "I don't think that's possible. That's not possible. My clients, and my space will not pay for that. Nobody pays that. And that's just not true, not possible." And I was like, "Well look, I'm going to challenge you on this and say, well, it's happening. It is true. And look, you don't need to believe me, and it's not my goal to push my beliefs onto you. It is my goal as a coach is to tell you what is happening and challenge you and break your beliefs."

And the guy went away and he's like, "Thanks for the call, Chris," which is totally awesome and that's what we do here, is if we can't help someone, it is to give you tips and give you help to allow you to move forward. Now, this person's biggest reason for not getting to where they were, or should be, sorry, the level of success that they should be, is that they are delivering amazing service, they're an amazing coach, but they're not charging enough. And that's because they believe to be true that no one would pay more than $500. And they believe that so much in their heart that even someone like myself when I speak to them and say, "Hey, there are a lot of people doing the exact same thing, charging a lot more, and those clients are loving it, and you could charge a lot more," they were so set that their belief was true that they couldn't see outside of that, the reality.

And the one reason why he couldn't scale is he couldn't get the income, he couldn't get the impact that he wanted and the financial security is because he wasn't open to charging more to what other people are doing right now because he believed that to be untrue and believed it with his heart and soul.

And like I said, my goal as a great coach was to help him try and break down that incorrect belief. And if we go back to the quote: "It's not what you don't know that hurts you the most, it's what you think is true that it isn't that hurts you the most." And that's just one example. You can see this in a thousand different ways. Other people are like ... People who have never been online before and don't have any online clients. They may look at this online training space and go, "Nobody pays for online coaches. Nobody gets personal trainers online."

And it's like, okay, well, there are millions out there right now doing it. But if you don't want to believe that and you want to hold true to your false beliefs, then that's cool. But when you're ready to open your eyes and question your beliefs and go, okay, well, what do you base those beliefs on? You've got no information, no data, no real stuff. You just have this belief and you hold it so true and that's what's holding you back.

Or, "Nobody clicks on Facebook ads. Nobody clicks on Instagram ads. Nobody pays clients over the phone. Nobody buys from a coach that they've never met before in person." All of these basic beliefs hold people back. Now, what I want to challenge you, and the point of this video, is that this is the number one thing that could be killing your business right now. Whether the examples that I've gone through before, just before, relate to you or they don't relate to you, what I want to challenge you this week is to, when making a statement that you believe to be solely true just to take a second. When you say something or you think something, it actually closes down your mind. Because you're like, "I live in this box. These are all the truths. Everything out there must be false, so I'm not even going to think about it." That's what limits your capacity to grow.

Now, I want you to challenge yourself to go, "What happens if this belief that I have is not true? How can I find out if it actually is true or if I thought it was true, but it's actually not and that's holding me back? Who can I speak to? How can I speak to a real person and how can I be open to the answer?"

It's very, very hard for people to break their beliefs. But let me tell you, your beliefs are your number one limiting factor. And people's inability to open their eyes, and open their ears to other truths out there is what limits people's capacity to grow. Now, you may be right, but you may not be right. But the thing that's going to allow anyone to grow massively in business, in life, and anything is to have an open mind, open eyes, and open ears to go, "You know what? This may be true and it may not. And I'm going to be open and actually dig to find out whether it is true or it's not, rather than shutting my mind down and saying, 'This is true. My belief is right with no actual real data.'"

Now, what I mean, I've even had people have a belief and go out there and try and search for data and speak to someone, five people, 10 people, and each one of those people to say, "Hey" ... For example, is it possible to do $100,000 dollars a month as an online coach? Yes, it is. And I've even heard of people who are like, "I don't believe it." And they will speak to five other coaches that are doing it, in their exact same niche, exact same space, everything, and when those coaches say, "Yes, it's possible," the person goes, "No, they must be lying."

I'll speak to another one. And the person says, "It's possible." "No, they must be lying. I'll speak to another." And then after speaking to five, going, "Oh, they must all be liars." Because it's hard to break your beliefs. It's hard to go outside and go, "You know what? What I believe to be true isn't, and I'm going to be open to looking at things in other ways.

I want to challenge you. Ultimately, where you are today, and if you're not where you exactly want to be, it generally comes down to either not knowing enough information on how to get there or having the wrong beliefs, and believing something to be true that is not true, and that capping you into your box.

As I said, it's an amazing quote to live by in all areas of life, and I'm just relating this specifically to the business. But this week, when you're doing something and you're like, Ah, you believe something? You may be right, but you may not be right. And the point is just to sit back for a minute and go, "What happens if this belief that I believe to be true is not true? And what can I do to find out if it is or isn't, and be open right?"

Now, as I said in the example before, is that people will go, "Hey, what happens if it isn't true? How could I find out?" They speak to people and they still get more data, but they still don't believe it. It's actually a thing called heuristic bias. Psychologists talk about it all the time. And that's where it's like, you go out there to validate your beliefs even though the beliefs are false and you're not truly open. You think you're open to hearing, but you're not truly open.

And that happens for a lot of people, and this is humankind and it's a very common thing. I want to challenge you to go out there this week and challenge your beliefs, challenge your thoughts, try to look outside the box of your beliefs, and truly be open. Don't think you're open and just, any other information you get, you use that to just validate your original belief. It's tough, but this is ultimately having exposure to other people with bigger understandings, who are ahead of where you are today or who are where you want to be, hanging around them, having open ears, open eyes, and having blind faith is one of the number one ways to download their belief patterns.

Because ultimately, look, most people, you might go, "Oh, I don't know, Chris has got a more successful business for me," for example. Or I might look at someone else and say, "Hey, that person's got a more successful business than me," whatever it might be. Now, it doesn't necessarily mean that I am smarter or I work harder or whatever other things you could throw in there.

There are people out there, and I know this, there are people out there that have less ability to build a business, for example, than me and have double the IQ than I do, or double the work ethic or whatever it might be. But it's generally belief patterns that limit someone. It's not working harder, it's not having a higher IQ, it's not having something that someone else doesn't have. As I said, this is one of the number one things that hold people back from getting what they should.

I want to challenge you this week. It's a difficult challenge. Be open. When you make a definitive statement on anything, take five minutes to sit back and go, "Hmm." Be careful about the wording and what you say to yourself because words become beliefs, beliefs become habits, habits become your life.

Now, you can hack that by questioning your beliefs and being open to an outside perspective, and trying to get outside of your current box. Because getting out of your current area, you need to do different things to get different results. And at all areas of life, at all areas of growth, there are things that I do, day in and day out, or I believe that limit my capacity to go to the next level. This is something that I'm trying to be very conscious of and challenge myself on a day in, day out. I want to challenge you to do the same, and you will see ... You will look back on certain things and go, "Damn. How the hell did I believe that so strongly when I can now see that, that was holding me back and it wasn't actually true."

It's not something you see straight away. But if you try to do that, in six months’ time, you'll look back, you'll be at another level and you'll be like, "Damn. Now I see that that thing that I believed, that thing that I believed so strongly was what was holding me back from going to the next level." Accept the challenge. Keep that top of mind this week and you'll see. And hopefully, it's something you hold onto for more than that week.

I'm going to challenge you to do it for a week. Hopefully, it'll open your eyes, your ears, and then you'll go, yep, I can see the power and it's something you'll hold onto for life, to allow you to really go to that next level. Hopefully, that makes sense. If you want a shout-out, if you want to reach out to me, shout out to me, any questions, anything I can help with whatsoever, [email protected]. You can DM me, or you can hit me up on social media, I'd be happy to help. And that is it for me. Bye for now.
